GoodLabs A.I. Syndrome Anomaly Detection System Selected by Canada’s Department of National Defence for Phase 2 $1MM Funding

COVID-19 variants continue to evolve and spread rapidly across the globe. Healthcare systems are struggling to keep up, and policymakers have exceptionally tough decisions to make. The impact on our lives is enormous. Planning a world beyond COVID-19, we need to leverage more advanced technologies to help us prepare better for future pandemics. 

  

In December of 2020, GoodLabs Studio was selected for funding by the Department of National Defence as one of 48 teams, out of the original 462 proposals, for its COVID-19 Rapid Response Challenge Phase 1 Development. Within just six months, GoodLabs’ medical researchers, A.I. researchers, and software engineers worked tirelessly together and developed a working end-to-end prototype of our Syndrome Anomaly Detection System.   

  

The prototype can extract symptoms from a live patient-physician conversation using a mobile app, classify syndromes, identify syndrome anomalies, and detect outbreaks using cloud-deployed A.I. models. After a stringent selection process, we are thrilled to announce that our project is one of the twelve projects selected by the Department of National Defence for $1MM funding for the phase 2 development. We will utilize the new round of funding to increase the size of our medical and A.I. research teams, including NLP and deep learning, to prepare our Syndrome Anomaly Detection System for real-world deployment.
